Immobilizing Enzymes on a Commercial Polymer: Performance Analysis of a GOx-Laccase Based Enzymatic Biofuel Cell Assembly

Enzymatic Biofuel Cell (EBC) represents a promising green source since it is capable of harvesting electricity from renewable and abundantly available biofuels using enzymes as catalysts. Nevertheless, nowadays long-term stability low power output are currently the main concerns. To this end, several research studies focus on complex tridimensional highly expensive nanostructures electrode support for enzymes. This increases cell performance whilst drastically reducing economic feasibility needed industrial viability. Thus, paper analyzes novel flow-based EBC consisting covalent immobilized GOx (bioanode) Laccase (biocathode) commercial flat conductive polymer. A suitable immobilization technique based ligands carried out to enhance durability. The experimental characterization demonstrates that generates over three weeks, reaching 590 mV 2.41 µW cm−2 maximum open circuit voltage density, respectively. most significant contributions configuration definitely ease implementation, cost, high scalability, reproducibility. Therefore, such design can be considered step forward in viable industrialization process wide range applications.
